Do you wish you didn’t have to cart off your old clothes to Oxfam or the clothing bank in your nearest car park? Do you wish you could get something for your old clothes?
CovertCandy is where I found the answer. I was looking for something free, as we all seem to be doing these days, picking up free samples from the cosmetic counter or rifling through your mothers old clothes; this company has caught on to the economic problems, and the questions of wastage in the fashion industry. We, as conscientious consumers, can do something about it by joining this site. They make recycling cool!

Founded by two London art students, CovertCandy is revolutionizing the way that we approach our consumption of fashion. It started as a simple online exchange where one can upload images of your clothes and value them with a point system.
In its early stages the clothes were of little excitement, mainly high street polyester pieces that you know they’ve been sweating down the local club. Only one girl’s homemade jewellery made any titter, with granny’s glasses as broaches and general Brick Lane type of accessories. Members where too cautious with their belongings, not wanting to upload items that could be sold on Ebay for real money. But the searches became more and more about the vintage pieces. Although the stock wasn’t that great, people started to refer to the site for their constant search for something old and cool.

The site has started to evolve, in the past few months the guys have set up an off shoot called, CovertCandy Shop where they have teamed with a buyer in Paris who is rooting around for the best vintage pieces.
The Shop works a little differently to the swap-shop, with the guarantee of quality they have returned to the traditional form of trade, money. The prices are kept relatively low but they retain a collection of surprising and exciting pieces.
So don’t hesitate, the Candy is yours, why not upload some of the dresses that you haven’t worn in years. Come join this online consumerist revolution!
