Damien Shingleton

Damien Shingleton is the name behind the darkly imaginative radio show The Screechy Badman’s Dinner Party, hosted on the Cornish station The Source. The Source is a community radio station set up by Matthew Rodgers, a brilliantly ethereal man who wanders in and out of the offices in between coffee dates with beautiful women. The Source is not your usual community radio station, but then Cornwall is not your normal community. The station content ranges from sound cities to alphabetical radio soup. The Badman’s Dinner Party is no longer restricted to the depths of the Cornish wilderness, now open online to anyone who wishes to follow.

Reminiscent of Verity Sharp’s Radio 3 Late Junction with its eclectic mix of genre and tempo, The Badman has engineered an almost music underground education. The sound of this show is unlike any other that I have come across. The deep reverberations of his voice, which rarely syncopate his mixes, adding to the effect peppers the show with trivia on his choices, or a little sharp sarcasm.

The Badman takes you from down tempo electronica, broken down field recordings, winding African tribal sounds, to full on messy, textural electro. This is a truly eclectic and unique platform. He is like a pied piper playing out his tunes to the willing ears of the world, each instalment of his dinner party you want to be invited again and again.

Damien lives in a quaint little Cornish town finding inspiration from the horizontal rain and seagulls.

Living in Japan for 2 years he then went on to travel around Europe, USA and spent time in India collecting field recordings on a motorbike. As a producer he has worked with such labels as Benbecula, where he released his solo album The Great Advantage of Being Alive (2007).

He continues producing artists in the USA, but he likes to keep that top secret.

And if you want to catch up on his pervious preachings and teachings just change the number at the end of the address. So go on, try it.
