Little Dragon

It was in the deepest darkest of winter with the moon high above the sea when this magic passed my ears. A good friend of mine handed the album down to me and I fell in love. I had seen Yukimi Nagano, the lead singer in 2006 at Ireland’s Electric Picnic with Koop another Swedish export, who gave the stage to other great singers such as Ane Brun among others. The duo have an incredible look, think circus come drag, and with Nagano’s energy on stage it was unstoppable, her little body disproved any expectations and she rose with her velveteen voice.

Little Dragon’s sound is the perfect music for winter nights, walking through the stark air, huddling against the force of the wind.

That was their first album, Little Dragon, featuring Twice, one of the best vocals I have ever heard. It had a purity and vision that is so unusual. The band includes Yukimi Nagano on vocals and percussion, Håkan Wirenstrand on vocals and keyboard, Fredrik Wallin on vocals and bass and Erik Bodin on vocals and drums.

The tribal sound echoes through the electronic. I am hesitant to mention Bjork, it’s not a Scandinavian style, it is reminiscent- the instrumental has some similarities, although Little Dragon is more ordered.

Blinking Pigs and Feather are my favorites by far. Beautiful bliss.
