This Saturday, Village Underground is proudly hosting The Nabokov Theatre Company's 4th Arts Club extravaganza. Boasted to be bigger, nastier, louder and later, due to the clocks turning back at 2am- giving its lucky punters one more precious hour of frolicking. Set in the deep heart of Shoreditch with some juicy surprises with performances from theatre, comedy and poetry!
Luke Wright is comparing the night. Wright is one of the best young poets, forget Ted Hughes, this guy has got attitude that strips away romance and tells tall tails that will leave you reeling. He’s got a loud mouth and a dirty laugh, probably something to do with his Essex upbringing that won the 4Talent award among other things.
The Arts Club are giving you everything and it gets better with a play from Leo Richardson, When Cheryl Got Brassic that Nabokov took to Latitude this summer. And then there’s Josh Idehen, the performance jazz poet, who let up Poejazzi, a poetry/music night based in London. Oh, I need to catch my breath, but there is more. Ed Gamble, the young and brilliant winner of the Revels Student Comedy Awards 2007 at the Edinburgh Fringe who has gone on to bigger and bigger things, will be addressing The Arts Club before he takes to the stage at the Apollo.
Clock Opera, will be gracing the stage with their presence, well his, as one man machine Guy Connelly with his samples and Guardian praised ‘chop-pop, basically live mixing of music and lyrics, don’t ask, just see for yourself. The delectable Correspondents will bend their lanky legs for a good-old knees, playing their swing-hop decadence.
And last but not at all the least, the physical theatre company, Tangled Feet- the award-winning, eight strong touring company that breathe life back into physical theatre- are to showcase their most innovative piece yet, Showtime.
The night is also in conjunction with 350.org, as the 24th October is indeed the International Day of Climate Action, bringing together people and groups from around the world to bring awareness and a sight for change. There are many different events going on around the glob on Saturday to promote awareness, each creating some unique piece of art for the organisation.
So you are in for a massive treat- bands, politics, poetry, swing, and jokes galore. Lights. Action. Get ready for The Nabokov Arts Club!
